NetherRealm Studios, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Intersport, officially launched the Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Kompetition 2019/2020. This inaugural season marks the start of a global esports program that features the latest installment of the iconic Mortal Kombat series.
For this season, all players regardless of rank get the oppurtunity to compete in a series of nine tournaments spread across North America, Europe, and Latin America. Winners get a slice of the $155,00 prize pool along with the chance to get one of the 12 spots up for grabs for the Final Kombat.
There is also two extra spots reserved for the winners of Canada’s Northern Arena and Latin America’s Liga Latina. The Interkontinental Kombat, which takes place across Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Australia, winner gets a slot as well. The final spot is to be given to the winner of the last-chance qualifier tournament, which is slated to be done before Final Kombat.
The top 16 players who compete in Final Kombat have a chance to get a large share of the $100,000. Final Kombat is scheduled sometime during the first quarter of 2020 and will be held in Chicago. Games are to be live-streamed on the official NetherRealm Twitch channel.
Various online tournaments are expected to be held as well. The first event is the Combo Breaker, which is scheduled for May 24 to May 26 at St. Charles in Illinois. A total of 12 tournaments are scheduled with registration for the first eight already open. These include the CEO on June 28 to June 30 in Florida, Viennality on July 5 to July 7 in Vienna, EVO in Las Vegas on August 2 to August 44, and the Celtic Throwdown on August 31 to September 1 in Ireland.
Other locations in the esports program include Dreamhack Montreal, Brasil, East Coast Throwndown in Connecticut, and the NEC in Philadelphia.
Mortal Kombat 11 is set for a North America and Europe release this April 23. The game is to be released for the PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Mortal Kombat 11 includes features of the previous games that players love, like Fatalities and Brutalities. New features include Fatal Blows and Krushig Blows. Fatal Moves are similar to X-Ray moves and deal a large amount of damage, but are only available when the opponent's health drops to below 30%. Fatal Moves can only be done once a match. Krushing Blows, meanwhile, are special cinematic variation of selected special moves and are activated when certain requirements are met.
