Mozart in the Jungle has been renewed for a third season, Amazon announced Tuesday.
Based on oboist Blair Tindall’s memoir, Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music , about playing for orchestras around New York City in the mid-2000s, Mozart in the Jungle stars Gael García Bernal ( The Motorcycle Diaries ) and Lola Kirke ( Mistress America ).
Mozart in the Jungle stars Bernal as Rodrigo, the new, flamboyant director of the New York Orchestra. The third season will take Rodrigo and his musicians to Europe.
Amazon made the announcement of Mozart in the Jungle ’s third season after Bernal’s Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy series.
Production on new episodes is expected to get underway later this year.
Perhaps the best endorsement of Mozart in the Jungle comes from Winston Cook-Wilson of Inverse , who wrote earlier this year, “ Few shows on TV — or on TV-on-the-internet— manage to be as patently and meaningfully feel-good as Amazon’s screwball classical-music-centric comedy Mozart in the Jungle. ”
The first two seasons of Mozart in the Jungle are available now on Amazon Prime.
