Live For Films caught up with Sigourney Weaver, who thinks Neill Blomkamp’s Aliens sequel is still a go, despite Ridley Scott converting his Prometheus sequel into an explicit Alien movie, retitling it Alien: Covenant. Continuity between the xenomorph movies is about to get very confusing, with a far-future sequel set to follow a prequel sequel set decades before the events of Alien . It’s even confusing to describe.

"Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien 'til after Prometheus 2,” Weaver said to Live For Films. "I’d be really surprised if we didn't do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait."

After Blomkamp released concept art from his sequel to Aliens (which looked to erase the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection), the positive buzz lead to 20th Century Fox greenlighting the project. But that was before Ridley Scott changed Prometheus 2 to Alien: Covenant and also before Blomkamp’s Chappie flopped with critics and viewers.

Though it’s hard to imagine how a sequel to Aliens could also be a sequel to Alien prequel Alien: Covenant , Ridley Scott, the project’s producer, insists it will make sense in the end. “It’s designed to go next,” Scott said to Empire, describing Blomkamp’s version as “more associated with Ripley.”

“It’s coming from a completely different angle. It’s kind of more of a sequel… after, after after. I’m coming at it from the back end.”

Okay, it sounds confusing when he describes it too.
