The first trailer for Gears of War 4 has just been released, which includes all the popular gimmicks of a review trailer. We got a melodramatic theme song, the protagonist running through a swarm of enemies and a sentimental moment. Even with the strange feeling that we’ve seen this before, it’s still awesome. I don’t want to ruin the whole trailer; it’s only a minute long and worth a watching.
In Gears of War 4 you play as the son to Marcus Felix, the main badass with a chainsaw in all the other Gears of War games. 25 years after the initial games, JD Felix runs away from home to join COG, a militia created to fight the baddies, and goes AWOL in the field.
Gears of War 4 will have split screen co-op , so that you and a friend can slice some evil-looking dudes in half. There will also be two more playable characters, Diaz and Walker . The multiplayer beta starts April 18 if you have early access, or April 24 if you don’t. GOW 4 drops October 11 as an Xbox One exclusive.
The third Gears of War is one of my favorite games. This was the first shooter to ever really capture my imagination, putting me into the role of “not a space marine” with a chainsaw attached to a machine gun. The action was fast-paced and unique, and the single player let me ride a giant Godzilla monster with chain guns strapped to its back.
If Gears of War 4 can capture even a percentage of that joy, I’m standing in line on launch day.
