"InZOI," the long-awaited life sim competitor to "The Sims 4," is stirring up controversy once again by revealing that it is dropping Denuvo Anti-Tamper from its early-access build.
It's not the first time that a game dropped support for this tool. In the past years, many developers also did the same thing.
'InZOI' Drops Denuvo to Match Player Feedback
As the most wish-listed game on Steam, "InZOI" has generated immense anticipation.
According to PCGamesN, developer InZOI Studio recently confirmed that it will remove Denuvo, a widely used anti-piracy software, from the game's early-access version. It looks like the studio is listening to the complaints of the players who claim that the tool affects the game's performance.
Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim, "InZOI's" producer and director, addressed the decision in a statement:
"Recently, we've seen growing concern around the implementation of the Denuvo anti-tamper solution in 'InZOI.' To address the most important point, we have decided to remove Denuvo from the early-access build of 'InZOI.'"
Why 'InZOI' Initially Implemented Denuvo
Kjun stated that the original intention of including Denuvo was to secure the game from unauthorized sharing and provide fairness for those playing lawfully. Nevertheless, after a more careful review of the community feedback, it was found that maintaining Denuvo was not in line with what the players needed.
Increased Freedom for Modders and Players
Removing Denuvo has its drawbacks, as it might leave "InZOI" more vulnerable to piracy. But Kjun is of the opinion that the move will liberate players by providing them with more creative freedom.
Although Kjun is aware that increased risks in cracking and illegal posting of the game could happen, he is also aware that players need "InZOI" to be more "highly configurable" for improved user experience.
By dropping Denuvo, InZOI Studio intends to provide an open platform on which modders can create and share original content to enhance the overall gaming experience.
Commitment to a Modding-Friendly Future
InZOI Studio is committed to creating a heavily moddable platform that stimulates creativity. Kjun reiterated the studio's continuous commitment to serving modders and building a rich modding community.
Removing Denuvo also means that modding will be everywhere. That's good news for someone who likes to customize their characters in the game.
Before the early access of "InZOI" on Friday, March 28, InZOI Studio apologized to all players for being late in removing Denuvo.
Aside from InZOI Studio, Capcom, a big company behind the "Resident Evil" franchise, removed Denuvo after two years. It's always been the center of controversy since players alleged that the anti-piracy software made their games slower and had longer load times.
