No Man’s Sky is almost upon us; the ambitious space exploration game is finally coming out June 21. PlayStation just released new gameplay footage, showing off the surface of a planet and space. Hello Games’ Sean Murray joined games host Anthony Carboni in some dinosaur hunting and space explosions. Over the course of 15 minutes, we get to see how truly gigantic the game is. Only one planet was shown out of the 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 in the game. I tried, but I can’t actually count that high.
There hasn’t been an exploration game I really enjoyed; Minecraft got boring for me after I realized there were no actual instructions to how to play it. No Man’s Sky feels different, it’s limitless potential makes me want to jump into a spaceship and shoot some alien frigates. I can see myself being a space adventurer; living out my Buck Rogers fantasies (though I don’t think the game has damsels in distress.)
I first saw No Man’s Sky when it was shown on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert all the way back in October. Colbert was floored, even he couldn’t comprehend how big the game actually is. Hopefully this game is everything we want and more, and not just Spore.
