No need to envy Xbox players any longer - 60 FPS Skyrim is now possible on PS5 thanks to the efforts of the game's dedicated modding community. The best part? It works with Trophies enabled in-game, too.
Aptly named "Skyrim @ 60fps," this mod - also available on PS4 and PS4 Pro - lets players uncap the 30 FPS limit imposed on the PlayStation Edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, so fans can finally enjoy smooth 60 FPS gameplay. Of course, depending on your console and its specs, your mileage may vary.
Another great thing about the mod is that it can be run without disabling Trophies. It doesn’t come with mods enabled right out of the box, but if you follow the simple instructions outlined on the mod page – and provided that you don’t use other mods that disable Trophies – you’ll be able to enjoy the full Skyrim experience, Trophies included at 60 FPS.
On PC, and now Xbox One S/X, Skyrim could hit 60 FPS right out of the box. Only the game’s PlayStation versions had a limit and made that FPS just a pipe dream. However, despite the mod’s capabilities, it’s not without flaws. The mod author added that the mod’s best results are tested on both PS4 and PS5. If you own a PS4 Pro, the 4K resolution conflicts with the mod’s potential. Still, the mod is new and the author may come up with ways on how to make it work on 4K.
Since the mod doesn’t take away Trophies, try to experience the smoothness of animation provided by the extra fps and see if it’s worth it. After all, most games today are designed to run at higher frame rates because of how it accommodates smoother gameplay and more organic character movements.
