The past week has brought loads of new Suicide Squad photos ahead of San Diego Comic Con where director David Ayer is expected to debut new footage. In addition to the plethora of photos, Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive revealed more details about the plot ahead of the film’s Aug. 5 release.
Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) will assemble the Suicide Squad in a post-Superman world, following the events of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. How will the government respond to impending alien threats? It’s not until Midway City (home of Hawkman and Hawkgirl) is threatened by a “powerful mystical enemy” – mysterious mega-eyeball exploding soldiers dubbed ‘The Eyes of the Adversary” – that Waller’s plan gets the green light. Not much is known about these bursting big bads since they are nowhere to be found in the comics, but their existence could be tied to possessed archaeologist June Moone, also known by her alter-ego Enchantress (played by Cara Delevingne), since she’s not pictured in any photos with the main members of the Suicide Squad.
To protect the world, Waller decides to give a few dangerous convicts a chance at redemption. She recruits Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Slipknot (Adam Beach), and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Each is given a taste of freedom with one strict rule: Obey orders or die. Enforced by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), soul sucking Katana (Rila Fukushima) and explosive dog collars from Wayne Enterprises, the Suicide Squad will embark on their first mission. It won’t be easy, especially since The Joker has an agenda of his own that’s tied directly to Harley Quinn. Whatever he’s after, it’s up to Batman to take him down.
The following is a collection of all the images released in the last week. You’ll see the set of Arkham Asylum, an upclose of Harley Quinn’s favorite bat, and Katana’s ‘Soul Taker’ sword. There’s a variety of set photos, character headshots, posters and official stills. You'll also get a peek at Common as Monster T, an associate of The Joker.
