Playful Studios (Creativerse, Star Child) has just announced that it will be releasing New Super Lucky’s Tale for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Super Lucky’s Tale is a 3D platformer published by Microsoft that was originally released in November of 2017 for the Xbox One and PC. The game follows the adventures of Lucky Swiftail, a curious and courageous anthropomorphic fox on a quest to retrieve the pages of the Book of Ages: a book filled with diverse worlds and unique characters. On this quest, he faces off against the nefarious Jinx and his progeny, the Kitty Litter. Lucky must then stop Jinx and his cronies from retrieving the pages across various worlds and ultimately overcome him.
New Super Lucky's Tale follows the formula of 3D platformers such as Banjo Kazooie and Crash Bandicoot. The game starts off with hubs for its different areas, and each level for the specific area can be accessed independently. The players’ move set consists of running, jumping, diving, burrowing, and swiping, which can be used to damage enemies or interact with the environment.
Less than three years after release for the Xbox One, it is quite surprising that a remake/remaster of sorts is already being developed. However, Playful Studios clarified in a tweet with a follower that “We rebuilt the game from the ground up...new levels, expanded story, fully rotatable camera, tighter controls, and improvements to nearly ever[y] other aspect of the game. So, it's essentially a new game.”
This new version, New Super Lucky’s Tale, was released for the Nintendo Switch in November of last year. In comparison to its predecessor, it boasts a 76/100 Metascore Rating and an 8.1 for its User Score, citing its polished gameplay, pleasing aesthetics, and excellent level design as its strongest points.
New Super Lucky’s Tale will be launching soon for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. No date has been announced yet regarding its release date. Currently, its predecessor is available on Xbox Game Pass and PC via Steam. New Super Lucky’s Tale for the Nintendo Switch is available physically and digitally through the Nintendo eShop for $39.99.
