Superman and Supergirl gear up to face a catastrophic threat in a new Supergirl Season 2 trailer released by CW. News outlets report ground control has lost control of a spiraling spacecraft. “They fear something catastrophic may have occurred,” a news anchor announces. Superman runs down a side street and jumps into the air, where he meets Supergirl face to face and the pair flies up into the sky together.
Could this threat be Metallo? Entertainment Weekly reported last month Metallo would appear in the premiere episode. The classic Superman villain battles the two heroes, but gets injured. Then, he “is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered super villain Metallo.”
Could the organization be Project Cadmus, the corrupt genetic engineering facility associated with the DEO? Team Supergirl is currently at odds with Cadmus after Martian Manhunter discovered they’re holding Jeremiah Danvers in captivity. Maybe they created Metallo to prevent Supergirl discovering the truth about her adopted father.
Showrunner Andrew Kreisberg recently confirmed Project Cadmus would play a large part in the first half of Supergirl Season 2, but the organization could also be Luthor Corp, now run by Lex Luthor’s sister, Lena, who just moved to National City.
Equal parts man and machine, Metallo is often depicted as a Cyborg. His robotic body and cybernetic enhancements are powered by Kryptonite, which gives him superhuman strength and speed.
There’s a fair chance the catastrophic threat in the trailer could be something else entirely. Any ideas? Let us know in the comments below!
