A new update for "Tetris Forever" is bringing a lot of new things to the game collection, including the addition of "Welltris" and many changes and improvements.
Developer Digital Eclipse released the latest update and confirmed that it plans to add more games and features in the future. The newly added game is a follow-up to "Tetris," which was created by Alexey Pajitnov.
New Tetris Forever Update
"Welltris" is a fan-favorite variant of "Tetris" that features Tetriminos and other shapes falling down four sides of a well. On top of this, the new update also makes some changes to "Tetris Time Warp."
Now, all players can individually remap their controls in the game, which has been one of the most requested feature changes from the community. This is a four-player game that immediately became popular with casual and competitive players.
The new update also included a variety of improvements, such as adding more customization options. This allows players to remap their controls in "Electronika 60," "MS-DOS," and "Apple II" games on console, according to Gematsu.
The latter feature was previously added to PC versions of "Tetris Forever" in November 2024. For the Nintendo Switch version of the game, the update introduces an audio fix that addresses a conflict with the Rewind functionality.
The audio issues could be heard even while playing some classic games in the handheld console's version of "Tetris Forever." The developers have, as a first step, disabled the Rewind function temporarily in the games that had audio glitches.
A Look Inside Tetris' History
"Tetris Forever" gave fans a chance to get an inside look into the development of the original game and the various changes that it underwent with each iteration. A lot of people think that "Tetris" is a simple game and has not much room for change, Game Ranx said.
However, this is not true, as the game has received a ton of updates that either changed its feel style or even affected its core mechanics. All of these iterations can be seen through "Tetris Forever."
"Tetris" previously held the Guinness World Record for the most ported computer game in history.
The game had 200 variants across 70 different platforms. That number has since gone up since the announcement of "Tetris Forever" for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
The game collection includes 15 playable classics that come from throughout the series' long history.
These include the 1988 Famicom version of "Tetris" and "Tetris Battle Gaiden." The developer also described "Electronika 60" as a faithful recreation of the 1984 classic, according to MSN.
