The design of the Nintendo Switch is getting a lot of attention, but with more information about Nintendo’s next home console not slated until 2017, details surrounding the hybrid machine will be under wraps for a few months at least.
However, Nintendo did come clean about one part of the Switch’s design, namely the dock.
IGN spoke with a Nintendo representative to clarify some misconceptions about the new home console, including what the dock for the Nintendo Switch actually is. Turns out, it’s not the actual console.
"The Nintendo Switch Dock has been created so that it is extremely easy to seamlessly switch from playing games on a TV to transition into a portable mode," a Nintendo representative told IGN. "The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."
Anyone who thought the Nintendo Switch dock was the actual console is mistaken, as it seems all the processors and power will reside in the tablet-like device that comes with the dock. The Switch will come with the tablet, dock and the Joy-con controllers, named Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R.
Nintendo Switch will release in March 2017.
So what do you think of the Nintendo Switch dock not being the main console and everything being contained in the tablet? Sound off in the comments section below.
