With E3 2017 arriving closer and closer, Nintendo has updated its online service page with pricing and what will be offered for those who pay for the service. Nintendo has also extended the free trial period from Fall 2017 to 2018.
The pricing for the Nintendo Switch online service will be monthly, every three months or yearly. Users can pay around $3.99 a month or $7.99 for three months or $19.99 for a year.
According to the official Nintendo site, users of the online service can use the “Online Lobby and Voice Chat” application for smartphones that will allow them to meeting friends online and have voice chat while playing games like Splatoon 2.
The site also revealed that Nintendo plans to roll out the Voice Chat app over the summer and can be downloaded and experienced for free.
The internet went savage when the first official headset for Splatoon 2 from Hori was revealed showing how voice chat will be hooked up to your smartphone and Switch and it didn’t go over well. While this update didn’t give any more information on how you can hook up your headsets, we’ll likely learn more at E3 and when more headsets are released.
Nintendo also revealed that paid users will be able to download classic games in what is being tentatively called “Classic Game Selection.” Classic Nintendo titles like Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Doctor Mario will be available.
Kotaku received clarification from Nintendo regarding the "Classic Game Selection" and those who pay for the service will be able to download and play as many of the games as they want as long as they have a subscription.
Paid users will also get special discounts from the Nintendo eShop.
Nintendo will likely give more information on its online services during its E3 presentation and we’ll update as soon as we learn more.
