As we draw closer to the next Nintendo Switch presentation in January, it seems a third-party site has leaked how the upcoming new console will potentially be charged outside of the dock shown in the reveal trailer.

In a listing on EB Games in Australia -- via Nintendo Wire -- @play will be bringing an “extra long” three-meter USB charging cable for the Nintendo Switch. What makes the product interesting is that it’s listed under Nintendo Switch accessories and the description even says it’s meant to be used with the upcoming console.

While the USB listings for the Nintendo Switch don’t confirm it will be included with the console, the USB rumor for the Switch has been around since before the official name was revealed and was going by the codename NX.

Insider Emily Rogers’ leaks concerning the Nintendo Switch confirmed that the console will support USB 2.0 and 3.0, with the Switch having one of each port.

So why is this significant? If the Nintendo Switch is indeed using USB ports to charge the device, then players can get the most out of it when they take it on the road and away from its dock.

Players can potentially use portable batteries with USB ports to charge the device anywhere, or use the ports located on their computers to charge the Switch.

The Nintendo 3DS family use AC adaptors to charge the handhelds, which force players to carry the specialized charger if they wish to use it for long play sessions.

So what do you think of this recent Nintendo Switch rumor? Do you prefer the idea of charging it with a USB cable? Sound off in the comments section below.
