Minecraft fans should have their heart set on two extremely exciting pieces of news: the upcoming holiday update for consoles, and the game-changing nature of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch. Granted, the system isn’t out yet and the game isn’t confirmed, but when Minecraft does hit the Switch, it’s going to be huge (and probably, believe it or not, a system seller). That’s because the Switch will finally be the perfect mobile Minecraft , far better than the Pocket Edition or anything else on the market.
Minecraft Switch Edition: Why Nintendo Will Finally Win With Minecraft
Minecraft came very late to the Wii U. In fact, the game released just last year for the system, years after it hit the other consoles. It seemed too little, too late (although it still did quite well, especially thanks to the awesome Mario pack ). But the commentators who said that Nintendo had missed the boat really just missed the point. Minecraft was always destined for the Nintendo NX, now the Nintendo Switch. With any luck, we’ll get Minecraft Switch Edition pretty quickly—ideally, right at launch. If so, it’s going to be a big deal.
Minecraft has always been hobbled on mobile. The official Pocket Edition has lagged behind the PC version for years, and only now is starting to catch up. Beyond that, it’s hard to control and simply isn’t the full Minecraft experience. Minecraft for PS Vita simply didn’t have very much penetration. The Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, is a flagship console and a flagship handheld… which means that a player’s main console world can also be with them on the go. You don’t need to have separate console and mobile worlds anymore! Just grab your Switch and go, and you won’t be stuck with just touchscreen controls either.
Of course, that’s all assuming that Minecraft really does come out for the Nintendo Switch—but we have no reason to think it won’t. After all, Nintendo only made the Wii version happen once the Nintendo NX had already been semi-announced (as the NX) in the press. And an exec from Microsoft, which owns Mojang, has spoken positively about the Switch. This is a very good sign. Chances are we’ll get Minecraft Switch sometime in 2017, ideally when the system launches. And from that point, for Nintendo Switch owners, the perfect mobile Minecraft will be here.
