No Man’s Sky will not require a PS Plus subscription, despite being an online game. This news comes from Game Informer.
Despite No Man’s Sky being an online-only game, it really isn’t a multiplayer game. The chances are apparently so small you’ll actually run into friends that No Man’s Sky is listed as a single-player game for both PS4 and PC.
Just because you don’t need a PS Plus subscription, you’ll still need internet access. A representative for Sony has been quoted by Game Informer saying “PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas.”
If you are unaware, the universal atlas is a way for players to log new plants, animals and planets into one shared database. Players will be able to rename discoveries, and the new names will stick around for every other player who happens to stumble upon the same things you have.
No Man’s Sky will release for PS4 and PC on Aug. 8.
So what do you think? Are you happy you will not have to renew your PS Plus subscription to play No Man’s Sky? Do you just want the darn thing to release already? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
