When you begin your No Man’s Sky journey, you’re left with only an exosuit, a Multi-Tool and a starship. However, while these are your default gadgets, you can install some awesome upgrades for all three. As you progress, you’ll want to find and install these upgrades to make you run longer, jetpack higher and have a more powerful arsenal overall.
There are plenty of recipes in No Man’s Sky and we have the basics of finding and building them, along with a list of the recipes in the game so far.
BASICS
To find recipes and blueprints, you’ll need to do a lot of exploring on planets. You can find them two ways, either by finding crashed pods that house these recipes, or receiving one as a gift from an alien.
If you find the same recipe more than once, the game will inform you.
The recipes will appear in your inventory menu, where you can build and install by clicking on an empty inventory slot. This makes finding inventory upgrades and better ships/multi-tools with more slots especially important, but we digress.
Each recipe will tell you what materials/elements you’ll need. The more powerful the upgrade, the rarer elements/materials you’ll need. You can mine for elements as you explore but certain materials will only be available through trading, initially. You can find recipes for those rarer materials later on, like antimatter for your Warp Drive.
You’ll also notice that most upgrades have four tiers. The first version of an upgrade is classified as Sigma and goes up to Omega. So the ranking of upgrades goes as such: Sigma to Tau to Theta to Omega.
You also don’t need “lesser” versions installed first to install the higher leveled ones, so if you’re fortunate to find a Theta or Omega level upgrade go right ahead and build/install them.
EXOSUIT
Your exosuit upgrades will include ways to boost your armor, jetpack and even your stamina. There are also specified shielding upgrades for your exosuit to combat any weather hazard, so be sure to find them.
