Chewbacca will be in the upcoming, untitled Han Solo movie.
As CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger has to go and speak at boring stuff all the time. This week it was the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet and Telecom Conference. According to The Wrap, Iger offered a brief description of the Han Solo movie after the telling audience about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Describing Rogue One, Iger said, “It takes place right before what was George Lucas’ first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called A New Hope.”
He followed it up with the world’s most obvious update about the upcoming Han Solo movie. “We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy,” Iger said. “And that’ll come after Star Wars 8 in 2018. And then there’ll possibly be more thereafter.”
That ranks a skosh above “No Shit,” since Iger’s description suggests that the plot of the Han Solo movie will be centrally focused around the origins of the Han Solo / Chewbacca bromance. Still, it might be unwise to read too many details into a speech given to a general business crowd.
The big takeaway is that Bob Iger has innovated a fantastic new method to drag the whole world into various conference halls and boring business exhibitions with him: simply mention something obvious about an upcoming Star Wars movie.
