Tokyo RPG Factory and Square Enix’s latest RPG offering, Oninaki, finally gets a release date, along with a brand-new trailer.

Oninaki is set to launch for both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch on August 22 in Japan, as formally announced by publisher Square Enix. An upcoming release date for the PC on Steam, however, was not announced. The Western release for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC is still unchanged from its summer launch date, although there’s still no definite date in sight.

Several purchase bonuses will be made available across all platforms in Japan. We have yet to hear if these will be different to the ones that we will get in the West.

  • Amazon Japan purchases for both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch will have a bonus of a set of five original washi.
  • Square Enix e-Store purchases for both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch will have an e-Store-exclusive double pocket clear file as a bonus.
  • PlayStation Store purchases for the PlayStation 4 will have three pre-order bonuses: a 10 percent discount, the ‘Emlis’ spear weapon which is useable with the Daemon Zaav and an Oninaki original dynamic theme.
  • Nintendo eShop bonuses for the Nintendo Switch are yet to be announced
  • Steam bonuses for PC purchases are yet to be announced.

With the release of this information, Square Enix has also dropped a new trailer, which features the game’s Daemons. These are characters that will assist Kagachi, your protagonist character in Oninaki, in battle. Check out the trailer below.

The trailer gives more focus to Daemons, who are special types of Lost Souls found in the game. Kagachi, your character, is a young Watcher, whose job it is to usher Lost Souls into the next world. Daemons are Lost Souls that cannot reincarnate; instead, they will bond with Kagachi, giving him access to different weapon types that are represented by each Daemon. Oninaki allows real-time switching between Daemons and their skills, making for tactical gameplay to deal devastating strikes to your various enemies.

Oninaki is set for release in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch on August 22. A Steam PC release has yet to be announced, as well as a final release date for all Western markets.
