Overwatch 2 will be revealed in an upcoming live stream event on May 20 at 3 p.m. EST. The event will be hosted by popular Overwatch league commentators, Mitch “Uber” Leslie and Matt “Mr. X” Morello.
Players can also expect appearances from Blizzard lead designer Geoff Goodman, associate art director Dion Rogers, and of course, the game’s new director Aaron Keller.
It was not long ago when Jeff Kaplan left the company after a historic run, but he was succeeded by Keller shortly after.
In a press statement, the company said that Keller has been an instrumental part of the original Overwatch team. As an 18-year veteran, he was one of the people who were responsible for the creative vision of the game. So, if you liked how Kaplan ran the show during his tenure, the new director will not disappoint.
The Live Stream
In a short “What’s Next” developer update, Keller announced that he and his team will reveal the next installment of the franchise on May 20. The event will focus mainly on PvP, new maps, and the overall philosophy of the core gameplay.
While players can be excited about what they will see, Keller stressed that the game is still a “work in progress” and things are subject to change as he and his team see fit.
Lastly, there will be a developer AMA discussion on the official Overwatch subreddit on May 24. The discussion will be about the past five years of development and more information about the highly-anticipated Overwatch 2.
It is still unclear what time the discussion will start on May 24, though that is likely to be revealed at the upcoming live stream next week.
Good News for PvP Fans
The director’s announcement regarding the PvP aspect of the game is good news for fans.
Last year, Kaplan explained that Overwatch 2 will be more focused on PvE. While many are okay with the idea, some would still want to battle it out with other players.
