Blizzard is hiring for a new game project, and fans are now chomping at the bit to figure out what it could be. While we don’t know much about the project, many have speculated it could be related to Overwatch.
As seen on the Blizzard website, the company is looking to hire a Lead Software Engineer for engines and one for developing tools. While those jobs may sound like they could be for any project, the description specifically mentions working on an “unannounced project” that has a “robust first-person engine.”
On both job descriptions, along with the “responsibilities” and “requirements” section is also a “pluses” section. Listed as a plus for both jobs is “previous experience working on a first-person or other action-oriented game.” The engine lead post also mentions working across multiple platforms.
What do all of these clues add up to? Blizzard is obviously getting started on a new first-person multi-platform game using a pre-existing game engine. What other first-person game has Blizzard made? Oh yeah, Overwatch.
We already know Overwatch is just brimming with story and character. Every animated short released by Blizzard has me wanting to know more about a world with mystic robots and super-intelligent gorillas. Unfortunately, the Overwatch we know now isn’t the best place to tell a story while still maintaining fun online matches.
This is pure speculation, but this new project could be some kind of campaign mode for Overwatch. This game mode would allow players to explore more of the Overwatch world and learn more about the struggles between Talon and Overwatch.
Then again, if we’re speculating, it could be something completely different. Everyone loves to joke about Starcraft: Ghost, and while this project most likely isn’t going to end up being Ghost, it’s still an interesting thought.
To know what this project is for sure, we’ll just have to wait and see when Blizzard will start the inevitable ARG.
So what do you think? Do you think these jobs are for an Overwatch campaign? Could this be some other project? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
