One of last year’s best mobile games is headed to PC and consoles this summer, PAC-MAN 256 publisher Bandai Namco confirmed on Tuesday, and the upcoming ports of PAC-MAN 256 will even include multiplayer support that wouldn’t have been possible with the mobile iteration.
Originally released by Hipster Whale, the indie studio behind fellow mobile hit Crossy Road, PAC-MAN 256 earned no shortage of praise during its first year on the market. Given how many versions of PAC-MAN we’ve seen on PC and consoles over the years, word that PAC-MAN 256 is getting PS4, Xbox One and Steam ports probably shouldn’t come as much of a shock. But fans might be surprised to hear that the upcoming ports, which also feature developmental work from 3 Sprockets, will include a brand new multiplayer feature exclusive to the PC/console builds.
According to a new trailer, PAC-MAN 256 won’t be getting a physical release on any of the three platforms, instead becoming available on each only as a digital download. Since today’s press release doesn’t include any mention of a price, we can only assume the PC and console ports of PAC-MAN 256 will be free-to-play (as it was on mobile) with post-launch financial support coming from a variety of microtransactions.
