Pankapu: The Dreamkeeper is an episodic 2D platformer from French indie game studio Too Kind about a little boy plagued with bad dreams. The boy’s father tells him the epic story of a brave and tiny warrior, Pankapu, who drives nightmares out of the Dreamworld. Check out the gameplay trailer for Pankapu below:
Is it just me, or is Pankapu ’s aesthetic strongly reminiscent of the (awesome) Disney games on the Sega Genesis? There’s a cartooniness to the bright, hand-drawn style that’s intrinsically appealing.
Pankapu ’s key features include three switchable job classes called “Aegis,” the ability to infuse your weapons with the power of Dream, two parallel stories between Pankapu’s story and the child’s real life, an action platformer told like a fable, the Nebula system for unlocking skills and abilities, hidden treasures scattered throughout its stages, and a soundtrack composed by Ganaé and Hiroki Kikuta ( Secrets Of Mana ) .
Pankapu comes from a successful Kickstarter with the Square Enix Collective , “a curated platform that enables creators to post ideas, and gamers to judge whether those ideas should become reality or not.... Essentially, we’re trying to help small teams build awareness of their ideas, and ultimately self-publish – while retaining IP and full creative control.”
Pankapu episode 1 of 4 is arriving on Sept. 21 at a sticker price of $4.99. For more information, check out Pankapu ’s Steam page here.
