Game director Jonathan Rogers shared more details about Path of Exile 2, including the sequel's endgame focus, supporter packs, and more.
The information dump comes shortly before the game's early access release to follow up on the original title's success. A previous early access content reveal for Path of Exile 2 showed fans a glimpse of what they can expect with the preview version of the game.
Path of Exile 2
The early access version of the game will only give players the option to choose from six out of the twelve revealed classes. The rest will come out when the game launches in full sometime in the future.
Each of these classes has two initial subclasses, which are known as ascendancies, that provide much more in-depth character building.
The Path of Exile 2 early access will also feature half of the full campaign that players can repeat on a harder difficulty upon completion.
This shorter main story is due to the developers trying to make sure that there is a robust endgame for players to experience. Rogers said that they are trying to get the early access right, according to PCGamesN.
He argued that if they tried to scale the endgame down, they would not have gotten the true reflection of what Path of Exile 2 could be like. The game director also noted that this gave them more chances to test how going through the game's campaign feels.
What To Expect
At launch, the endgame will have four core mechanics; Breach, Ritual, Delirium, and Expedition. These can be considered as "sequels" to the popular systems that players were able to experience in the original Path of Exile.
Another thing for players to note is Supporter Packs that give players the opportunity to dive into the game's early access version. These come with unique in-game cosmetics, physical merchandise, and several tiers, One Esports said.
Path of Exile 2's story is set two decades after the conclusion of events from the first game. The sequel puts players back into the dark and gritty world of Wraeclast. A new threat now looms in the form of the Count of Ogham and the Seed of Corruption.
Developer Grinding Gear Games originally opened the closed beta for Path of Exile 2 in August 2024. The early access period will start on Dec. 6, 2024, to let players have a taste of what is to come in the full version, according to The Direct.
