The period crime drama series Peaky Blinders has somewhat flown under the radar of most of the general public since its inception, but there is no denying that it is currently one of the best series airing as of late. Telling the tales of the Peaky Blinders gang under the control of the Shelby family in the aftermath of the First World War, the series features an amazing cast led by Cillian Murphy to showcase the emerging criminal lifestyle in early 1920s England.
The series’ relative success has been more pronounced as of late, and as a result it has now started to move into interactive territories with the announcement of Peaky Blinders: Mastermind, a puzzle adventure title developed by FuturLab and published by Curve Digital. The announcement came with a trailer, which you can check out below.
The trailer showcases Peaky Blinders: Mastermind from a top-down perspective much like turn-based RPGs, but the gameplay is very far from it. It’s far more interactive, with actions happening in real time to form a continuous flow. The game lets you play as several members of the notorious Peaky Blinders gang, headed by the mastermind Tommy Shelby. Mastermind lets you live out his ability to plan incredibly complex scenarios in his head while calling upon his closest and equally talented allies, including Arthur Shelby, his brawny brother, and Polly Shelby, his manipulative and cunning aunt.
The announcement also came with the release of its Steam page, which details the timeline of events in Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. The game is set right before the events of Season One, and sees the Shelby family uncovering a deceptive plot to put them out of business. Tommy moves to unravel these schemes as he proves his worth and place as the leader of the Peaky Blinders’ criminal empire.
The game also makes heavy use of time manipulation, letting players reset, fast forward, or rewind the actions of the characters in order to perfect their strategies. You can check out more of Peaky Blinders: Mastermind in action by watching the gameplay video below, courtesy of Gematsu.
Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is set to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam this summer.
