Phantasy Star Online 2 PS4 Release Dated August 31, Alongside PSO2: New Genesis

The Anime Expo weekend was full of pleasant surprises, not only for anime itself but also for anime-inspired video games. SEGA dropped a big one this weekend with its announcement of Phantasy Star Online 2 finally coming to PlayStation 4 this August 31, two years after its initial release on Xbox consoles and PC in 2020. This release is accompanied by Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, a standalone title with the Phantasy Star Online 2 game application.

Here’s an overview of the games:

• Free-to-play online action RPG.
• Features huge wide-open battlefield environments, with expansive playfields filled with various ferocious enemies. Travel different wide-open environments using various special abilities. Area transitions also feature no loading screens for seamless action.
• Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis features enhanced character models that players can customize from top to bottom using a powerful creation engine. Use every imaginable characteristic to make your unique avatar.
• Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis also features a completely redesigned graphics engine. See lush environments, amazingly detailed player characters, and monstrous foes in razor-sharp resolution. Watch spectacular new lighting and particle effects as weapons clash with armor.
• Brand-new multi-weapon system and abilities for New Genesis, allowing players to combine two types of weapons for smoother weapon switching.
• Seamless connection between Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis.
• Complete cross-platform play between PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 players.

As with the 2020 global release, these versions of Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis include localized text and English character voices and remain content current with their Japanese counterparts.
