Publisher Sega has just announced that it will soon be releasing the PC version of its long-running MMORPG title Phantasy Star Online 2 via Steam this coming August 5. The Steam release will offer features such as cross-play and cross-progression with the other available platforms for the game. This also means that the long-awaited massive update Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, which is slated to launch in 2021, will also be available on Steam.
Tons of bonuses will be given out by Sega for those who play PSO2 come launch date. The most basic rewards can be retrieved simply by logging on to the game, while the others involve finishing quests on different difficulties multiple times. These rewards are mostly cosmetic and are collaborations with popular titles from Valve such as Portal 2, the Half-Life series, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead. These include Headcrab Emotes, EXP and Drop Rate amplification, hairstyle cosmetics, weapon skins, and outfits. The complete list of rewards can be found at this link.
For those who haven’t heard of the game yet, Phantasy Star Online 2 is a free to play MMORPG which was originally released in 2012 for the PC exclusively in Japan. Earlier in April of this year Phantasy Star Online 2 debut in the west for the Xbox One, with a PC version via the Microsoft Store following suit in May. In-game, players assume the roles of ARKS Operatives, which is an elite task force that is dedicated to exploring desolate and hospitable planets while also looking for signs of a dark corruption called the Falspawn.
Players start off by choosing from four distinct races (Humans, Newmans, CAST, and Deumans) then dedicating to one of nine unique classes (Hunter, Ranger, Force, Braver, Bouncer, Summoner, Fighter, Gunner, and Techter), each with their own unique strengths and skillsets. The game’s main allure comes in the form of its character customization, both with their stats and aesthetics, which can also dictate the player’s playstyle. There are also multiple weapons to choose from which definitely change how one approaches the game.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is set to launch on Steam on August 25. The game is currently available for North America on the Xbox One and PC via the Microsoft Store.
