Sega has just announced that its free-to-play MMORPG title Phantasy Star Online 2 will be launching soon the for the PC via the Microsoft Store later this month. Check out a trailer for Phantasy Star Online 2 below.
For those who don’t know, Phantasy Star Online 2 is an MMORPG that was developed and published by Sega for Windows in Japan in July of 2012. The game revolves around the Oracle: an intergalactic fleet at the forefront of deep-space travel. Players start off as the newest recruit of ARKS: a task force dedicated to surveying and monitoring the biosphere of inhabitable planets. From there, players can choose from four different races (Humans, Newmans, CAST, and Deumans) and nine different classes (Hunter, Ranger, Force, Braver, Bouncer, Summoner, Fighter, Gunner, and Techter), each with their own special strengths and skills. Since then, it has received multiple ports for different platforms, but hasn’t been released for markets outside of Japan until April of this year when it was made available initially for the Xbox One.
In a press release, PSO2 TEAM North America’s Head of Marketing Fred White said “We're thrilled to announce the long-awaited arrival on PC. There's a loud and passionate PC fanbase who has been patiently waiting for the North American version – we can't wait to welcome them in. There will be login bonuses waiting for them with more surprises planned in the coming months."
The North America version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will include fully localized text and character voices in English for its three years’ worth of content. Also, the North American version will receive the latest patch that includes bug fixes, balance changes, and quality of life improvements that are currently available in the Japanese version of the game. Most importantly, the game will support cross-platform play between Windows and the Xbox One.
Lastly, the North American release will also include Phantasy Star Online 2’s first in-game collaboration for the region – which revolves around Hatsune Miku. Unique items, accessories, and outfits can be collected by using ARKS Scratch tickets.
Phantasy Star Online 2 will launch for the Microsoft Store for North America on May 27.
