A new image from Microsoft’s upcoming Phantom Dust remaster debuted this week, courtesy of Xbox division head Phil Spencer, but there’s still no word on when we can expect to see the remastered Xbox title ready to be enjoyed by Xbox One owners. And there’s still no word on that amazing-looking Phantom Dust reboot teased back in 2014.
According to Spencer, the newest Phantom Dust screenshot to hit the web doesn’t serve a specific purpose. Microsoft isn’t gearing up to make any major announcements today, there aren’t any new trailers for the game yet and Phantom Dust certainly isn’t ready to hit the Xbox Store. But the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division was apparently toying around with the latest build this morning and wanted to share an image with the Phantom Dust community. The screen confirms the game has been adjusted to fit 16:9 displays without distortion and that the game will run at 30fps on the standard Xbox One console. But follow-up comments from Spencer suggest we could see better performance on Project Scorpio hardware.
Unfortunately, there’s still no official word on the release window for Phantom Dust remaster teased during Microsoft’s E3 2014 presser. Few details on the project were given at the time, and we’ve heard even less in the three years since it was announced. But the fact that Microsoft hasn’t formally cancelled the project, combined with Spencer’s own passion for the franchise, gives us some lingering hope for a proper Phantom Dust reboot at some point in the future.
For a closer look at the Phantom Dust reboot shown back in 2014, take a few minutes to watch the teaser trailer from Microsoft. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re still holding out hope for the Phantom Dust reboot.
Phantom Dust and Phantom Dust Remastered are in development for Xbox One. Neither project has a release date at this time.
