After a Starbucks internal memo was leaked online, sparking the rumors that the Gen 2 Pokémon were coming to Pokémon Go, a new memo has begun to circulate within Starbucks stores, further alluding to the inclusion of new Pokémon coming to the popular mobile game.
The leaked Starbucks promotional memo states the Pokémon Go promotion begins Thursday, Dec. 8. The majority of Starbucks will become either a PokeStop or a Gym and will offer a special Pokémon Go frappucino.
However, the wording on this new Starbucks promotional document doesn’t indicate that Gen 2 will be added in conjunction with the partnership, but SilphRoad believes it’s highly likely the 100 new Pokémon will come this week.
From the insistence of the launch of “version 2” of Pokémon Go in the first leaked memo to the fact that the client-side code is already included in the current version of the app for all 100 of the next Pokémon, which was discovered on Nov. 7 in The Silph Road’s APK mine, Gen 2 is very close to arriving.
According to Silph Road, Niantic could hypothetically roll out the new species with a server-side-only change and begin spawning the new species without the need for an app update.
There is still a lot we don’t know about the partnership between Niantic and Starbucks, but if Gen 2 were to show up in the game, this would be a perfect time to see an uptick in usage.
Niantic has done a great job recently giving regular updates to Pokémon Go, including Daily Missions, changes to CP and Gyms, and adding the elusive Ditto into the mobile game.
If Gen 2 is added, the only Pokémon that would be missing are the Legendary Bird Trio (Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos), and Mewtwo and Mew.
