Now that Legendaries have finally been introduced to Pokémon Go, it’s time to look forward to what’s next for everyone’s favorite pocket monster mobile game. According to users on The Silph Road subreddit, it looks like a whole new generation of Pokémon will be the newest additions.

This information comes from user dronpes, who searched through lines of code for the 0.71.0 version of Pokémon Go. According to dronpes, there are 135 new species of Pokémon referenced in the APK metadata. All 135 of the new species are Gen 3 Pokémon, and all fall into one of 73 new candy ‘families.’ A candy family refers to all the Pokémon who use the same kind of candy to evolve. For example. Pidgey, Pidgeotto and Pidgeot are all in the “Pidgey” family of candies.

A full list of the Pokémon found in the data mine can be read here. Notable inclusions for Gen 3 include the starters Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip, as well as everyone’s favorite heart-shaped fish, Luvdisc.

Other changes found in the 0.71.0 APK include a new super incubator, a number of bug fixes and possibly some updates to Ditto. The changes to Ditto aren’t clear yet, but it could simply be getting Ditto ready for the new Pokémon. Details about the super incubator also remain vague, but it seems this new incubator type will probably hatch eggs faster than the normal ones.

So when can Pokémon Go players expect to see these new Pokémon wandering around? That’s still unknown, but if timetables are similar to the Gen 2 release, it will still be a few months from now. The first references to Gen 2 Pokémon came with update 0.45.0, which released in early November 2016. Gen 2 Pokémon released on Feb. 15, roughly three months after.

If the same schedule continues, we can expect to see Gen 3 Pokémon in the wild by the end of the year. However, Gen 2 only had around 80 new Pokémon added to Pokémon Go, compared to the 135 new Gen 3 Pokémon found in the game’s code. More Pokémon may make this update take a little longer to implement than its predecessor.

So what do you think? Are you excited to start prowling your neighborhood again in search of Gen 3 Pokémon? What features would you like to see implemented before getting new pocket monsters to catch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
