There’s been a lot of talk on the internet about Pokémon Go nests, especially after Niantic changed how they spawn. So, what exactly is a Pokémon nest and how do they work? Around the world, there are specific locations that spawn the same Pokémon no matter what. That means, that there could be a place down your block that no matter what will have a Dratini sitting there at least once per day. They are usually at parks, museums, stadiums and anywhere large amounts of people congregate.

Nests are different from the random, regular spawns that happen in the game. If you are walking down a street and a Pidgey pops up, it’s not because there is a nest nearby. Pokémon Go randomly drops Pokémon around the world, and some players have been able to guesstimate what will show up. At the PokémonGoHub , players have looked over 100 million data points in order to figure out the percentage a Pokémon has the chance of showing up. Surprising nobody, Pidgey is the highest with 16 percent and Dragonite has the lowest with .0011 percent.

Silph Road, a collection of Pokémon Go enthusiasts, are working on a global map of spawn points so players know exactly where to go to find their dream Pokémon. Right now, they are still working on getting all the kinks ironed out but you can already start mapping out the Pokémon nests on their website . Silph Road have also released a video detailing the three different types of nests, how nests work and how their new Silph Road Global Atlas Works.

A Frequent Spawn Area just has a high chance of spawning a Pokémon within a certain area, a Frequent Spawn Point has a very high chance of spawning a Pokémon in a specific spot and a Cluster Spawn has “multiple of uncommon or rare species showing up at once.” Cluster Spawn Nests are the best of the three because they have tons of one specific Pokémon that can be farmed for easy candies and evolutions, but Pokémon caught there usually have terrible stats, or IVs.

Just because you have a nest near you, doesn't mean it will be there forever. Since Pokémon Go launched, nest locations have moved or “migrated” somewhere else. They seem to be happening at least once a month to try and shake up the game and keep it fresh. You might find a Jynx nest one day, and her icy stare is gone the next.
