To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Pokémon Go , Niantic has announced a small but special event for trainers who grew up with the Pokémon anime.
Anyone familiar with the special Pikachu events in Pokémon Go knows that the mascot will appear in-game with a special hat. To mark the anniversary of the mobile game, Ash Hat Pikachu will be joining the game.
According to the official Pokémon Go website, starting f rom July 6 at 4 p.m. EDT to July 24 at 4 p.m. EDT, Pikachu discovered in the wild will be wearing Ash’s famous hat from the Pokémon animated series.
If it’s like the other special hat Pikachu that have appeared in Pokémon Go , then it may be a while before they show up. In the past, special Pokémon Go Pikachu, like the birthday and Santa hat Pikachu, didn’t show up during the first few days of each event, but by the end trainers had plenty of special Pikachu encounters.
The possibility of encountering and catching the Ash Hat Pikachu is not the only way Niantic is celebrating the Pokémon Go anniversary. Trainers will also be able to stock up for Raid Battles and the events ahead with the special limited-time Anniversary Box, which will include Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls and Raid Passes at a discount in the in-game shop.
With the revamped Gym Battle system and the introduction of Raids, Pokémon Go is ramping up the content for the upcoming second year. There are also special Pokémon Go events being held in specific cities across the world.
Pokémon Go Fest Chicago will be held this July, events hosted at select Unibail-Rodamco locations this August and September in Europe, and Pokémon Go events at the Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama, Japan, this August.
Niantic also released special promo art for the Pokémon Go one-year anniversary, which you can see below.
