With the Generation 2 update for Pokémon Go, a new baby Pokémon was introduced that wasn’t available when other babies like Pichu and Cleffa were put into the game.
Tyrogue is the baby Pokémon of Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan and the new Johto Pokémon, Hitmontop. However, like the Eevee-lutions, who Tyrogue evolves into is actually not as seemingly random as it’s made out to be.
According to this thread on The Silph Road subreddit, Tyrogue’s stats determine whether it evolves into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan or Hitmontop.
If Tyrogue’s best stat is its Attack, then it’ll evolve into Hitmonlee. A higher Defense will make it evolve into Hitmonchan and if Tyrogue’s HP is its best stat then it’ll evolve into Hitmontop (although, it should be noted that Hitmontop hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, but it’s very likely it’s tied to HP).
When Tyrogue has two or more stats that are equal, then the evolution will be random.
To determine your Tyrogue’s stats in Pokémon Go , you can go to the Appraisal feature when you go to that Pokémon’s menu. Your Team Leader will outright say which stat is its best, but if you want to really understand your Pokémon’s fighting prowess, check out our Appraisal guide.
Tyrogue is only found in 5KM eggs, so go out and hit up some PokeStops.
