Pokemon Magikarp Jump, the latest mobile offering by the Pokemon Company released last week and while it may celebrate one of the most seemingly “worthless” Pokemon in existence, it’s proven to be a pretty fun little game. In Magikarp Jump, players train Magikarp and send them into battle to see who can jump the highest. As players win more battles the progress through nine different leagues of play. The first couple leagues are fairly easy to push through, but the higher you go, the harder they get. If you’ve just got started into playing Magikarp Jump, we’ve put together a brief beginner’s guide with tips, tricks and strategies for training better and progressing through more battles and leagues. Check them out below. Also, for those seeking a guide on Pokemon Magikarp Jump Leagues to include opponent JP levels and rewards won, we’ve got one of those for you right here.
Pokemon 'Magikarp Jump' Beginner Tips And Strategies For Training And More
Tip #1: Make Sure Your JP Is High Enough
Before going into battle, you want to make sure you’ve hit an adequate JP level in order to beat your opponent. While you can make an educated guess based on the level of your opponent in the previous battle, we actually put together a guide with all the JP levels of each opponent in every league battle. If you take a look at your next opponent’s JP level, you can get a good idea of whether your Magikarp is ready to take him on. As you know Magikarp gain higher JP by training and eating so just keep doing that until you’re ready. POWER TIP: In analyzing my opponents in battle I discovered that having an equal amount of JP won’t guarantee a win. In most cases my opponent will beat me if we have equivalent JP levels. As a rule of thumb I try to make sure my Magikarp’s JP level is 1.25 to 1.5 times larger than my opponent to ensure a win.
Tip #2: Upgrade Your Training Equipment And Food Items
As soon as you start winning some battles and completing achievements, you’ll be gaining some coins. Use them as often as you can to upgrade your training equipment and food items. I actually think upgrading training equipment is more useful so I’d focus most of my energy there, but if a new kind of food becomes available, try to purchase it as new foods tend to have much higher JP. In terms of training equipment, the Sandbag Slam and the Jump Counter seem to show up most frequently in the training line up so I’d try to up the level of those a bit to increase JP earned during training.
Tip #3: Use Your Decorations
At various times in the game you can either win decorations or purchase them using accumulated diamonds. These items can do things for you like increase JP earned during training, increase coins won during leagues, increase experience points won and more. Decide on your goals and save up to purchase decorations that will help you. Also, make sure you actually place the decorations in your pond. If you purchase them and don’t place them, they don’t do you any good. Also, don’t purchase more than one of the same decorations. Placing more than one doesn’t yield any better effect than having just one. You can find all the available decorations and how to get them, here.
Tip #4: Use And Upgrade Your Support Pokémon
As you win different League Battles, you will gather Friendship items to unlock special support Pokémon – Pikachu is your first. These Pokémon have two main purposes. First, they can give you some kind of boost in the pond. For example, Pikachu gives you bonus JP when a light bulb is over his head and you tap it. He takes an hour and a half to recharge but every time the light bulb appears, tap it and you’ll get that little JP boost. Support Pokémon like Pikachu can also boost your JP during battles as well, but those bonuses appear randomly. To increase the effectiveness of support Pokémon you can upgrade them along the way using candy. Candy is won after certain League battles. You can find out about all the Friendship items and what the supporting Pokemon do, here.
Tip #5: Participate In Events
Throughout the game there are various random encounter you will have called Events. Some of these allow you options for participation, while others just happen to you without your control. In general I’ve usually chosen to participate in Events and you can gain a lot of JP quickly this way or be given extra training points. Sometimes bad things can happen too though. For example, in the “Out of Nowhere” event you can actually have your Pokémon stolen by a Pidgeotto and you have to start training a new one, but more often than not, the encounters tend to bring positive results.
