Pokémon Makeup is a viral Instagram fashion trend taking the web by storm thanks to Pokémon Go. Check out some of our favorite Pokémon Go makeup photos, here.
Pokémon Makeup is a thing now, apparently. Thanks to the Pokémon Go mobile game, which has been a pervasive worldwide obsession since its release a month ago, geeky fashionista’s on Instagram have begun posting some pretty incredible photos showing off their creative depictions of Pokémon using makeup.
Spend a few minutes perusing the #PokémonMakeup hashtag, and you’ll find yourself completely blown away by the creative makeup techniques these artists are using to recreate their favorite Pokémon characters.
Whether you want to channel a Pikachu or hoping to resemble the rare Dragonite, the photos are totally inspiring. In looking through the many examples of Pokémon makeup out there, the artists seem to camp themselves in one of three different styles.
The Poké-Mouth
The first, which has been dubbed Poké-Mouth or Poké-Lips, involves painting a favorite Pokémon character around a person’s lips, so that when he or she talks it appears a tiny Pokémon creature attached to his or her face is talking as well. Below are a few examples of Poke-mouth or Poke-lip makeup.
The Poké-eyes
The next class of Pokémon makeup is subtle and at first glance, might be misconstrued as simply decorative. It’s called Poké-eyes. In this case, the artists apply makeup only to the eye region but incorporates colors and certain markings that Pokémon enthusiasts will recognize as depicting a particular character. In some cases, they throw in a set of contact lenses to enhance the look all the more. Here are a few of our favorite Poke-eye Pokémon makeup designs.
Vileplume
Zapdos
Pokeball
Pikachu
The Full Pokémon
The third classes, if you haven’t guessed it, are the full face Pokémon makeup looks and some of these are beyond impressive. Incorporating face paints, eyeliners, contact lenses and more, these artists’ handiwork are delightful to behold for any Pokémon fans.
Ratata
Team Valor
Vaporeon
Glumanda
Of course, the Pokémon Makeup trend isn’t anything super new as cosplayers have long been using makeup to represent their favorite anime and other fictional characters, but the popularity of Pokémon Go has brought the art of fictional character makeup to the forefront for us all.
