After the reveal of the Starter Pokémon in Sun and Moon , the community has speculated what the evolutionary line will look like. Well a new video may have discovered the typings of the evolutionary line for the Pokémon Sun and Moon starters.
YouTuber pdwinnall found some code within the Japanese Pokémon website where some of the possible typings are revealed for the evolutions of the starters.
Of course, this is speculation and not confirmation until The Pokémon Company comes out and confirms the evolutions and their typings. Also, if you don’t want to be spoiled about this possibly crucial part of the game turn back now.
Here’s pdwinnall explaining how he found the typings.
According to the video, the Pokémon Sun and Moon Japanese site has fields that were left blank in the code as pdwinnall inspected the resources.
The first two fields are the typings Grass and Flying, which refer to Rowlet’s typing. Field 3 is left blank with field 4 being Fire (Litten’s typing) and field 5 being the Water typing, which is Popplio’s typing. Field 6 is also left blank.
But when he changed the URL of the site, the typings which are actual PNG images and not text show up. Field 3 is the Ground typing while Field 6 is the Fighting typing.
Pdwinnall goes on to theorize that Litten will become a Fire/Ground type while Popplio will evolve into a Water/Fighting type. However, this theory will change because with field 3 being left blank, you would think that will refer to the primary typing of Litten, but conventional typings give the Starter Pokémon either Grass, Fire or Water as the primary typing.
This means that Litten’s evolution will gain the Ground typing as its primary typing? Not likely. Pdwinnall made a possible mistake in his video (which he corrected in an annotation at the end of the video) where he goes back and says that the Ground typing could actually be for the Rowlett line instead.
That would mean that Rowlett will go from a Grass/Flying type to a Grass/Ground type. This would also mean Litten remains a Fire type only throughout its evolutions.
Again, this has not been confirmed but it does lead to a wonderful discussion as to what the Starters of Sun and Moon will become.
