It’s the last month of the year but it doesn’t mean that everyone just waits for the new year. A lot is happening for the holidays in Pokémon Unite which includes many events. Today, we’ll take a look at some of them.
New Playable Pokémon
Let’s start with the new playable Pokémon, two of which are set to be introduced this month. The first one is Tsareena arriving on December 9. Tsareena offers trainers some new ways to play, especially with moves like Trop Kick and Grassy Glide. Everyone can get a free Unite license for this Pokémon until December 31. To get that, just log in to the game and check the in-game mail.
The second is Dragonite, flying into the game on December 20.
Snowball Fight
The holiday spirit kicks into high gear starting December 15. In this one, any Pokémon knocked-out will turn into snowmen. While they may be frozen in place, they can continue to give tactical information to their teammates.
Those who can defeat the Delivery Pokémon Delibird get a gift box that offers a random one-time battle item, which replaces the player’s current item. It should be noted that the wild Pokémon in Shivre City’s central area will be replaced with Articuno two minutes into matches and offer new challenges for teams to take on.
This one lasts until January 16.
Special Challenges
In addition to the Snowball Battle at Shivre City, there’s also the Illumination Challenge in the same period. Players need to light up the festive tree which appears in the lobby by collecting lights earned through daily missions (where as many as 100 lights per day can be earned) and challenge missions (a maximum of 750 lights per challenge mission can be earned).
Collecting lights unlock decorative items and bonuses, which include:
- 1-Day Limited License: Alolan Ninetales
- New Trainer fashion items
- Other holiday-themed decorations
There’s also the Photo Challenge, from December 24 to January 6. Players need to collect snowflakes to finish a seasonal art piece. Snowflakes can be obtained by fighting in standard matches, quick battles, ranked matches, and Snowball Battle in Shivre City.
Happy New Year
In celebration of the new year, players get the chance to access every Unite license for the first three days of 2022. This should allow them to play with any Pokémon for free, though this does not include ranked matches.
Pokémon Unite is available on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
