The Lionsgate Power Rangers reboot movie is trying to be a more mature interpretation of the kid-friendly 90s television show.
But it sounds like there are plenty of nods to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series in the upcoming film. Some of those will include Alpha Five, Zordon’s trusted helper, and the Dinozords.
During Nerdist’s sit-down with Power Rangers ’ director Dean Israelite and the cast at San Diego Comic-Con, the director was asked directly about Alpha Five and whether the beloved character will appear in the film. Israelite confirmed that Alpha Five will be in the film. The cast also confirmed that they will have Dinozords, just like the 90s TV series.
Check out Nerdist’s recap of its Power Rangers sit-down below.
Although the Power Rangers reboot will take the story of five teenagers with attitude into a new mature and sci-fi direction, the director and cast acknowledge the source material will play a role.
In an interview with MTV , Israelite said "We dropped the 'Mighty Morphin' and it's just Power Rangers . I think it's a conscious decision to note that we are taking this to a new reimagined, reinvented place, and that yes, it's going to be the origin story of these five kids from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers — but we're bringing it to its own arena."
Becky G, who plays the Pink Ranger, added this tidbit,
"There's a lot that keeps the true essence of the original story, but it's still relevant to now. We stripped a few things away, but the Power Rangers are still there."
