If you’re feeling up for feline fun, then you should be excited for this one. Cat Café Manager is set to launch for the PC through Steam this fall. The game is being developed by Roost Games, the same team behind games like Godhood, Renowned Explorers, and Reus.
The story follows the player who takes over as manager of an old cat café previously owned by the player’s granny. The goal isn’t just to hire staff and decorate the café to fit your personality. As the title implies, players actually need to take care of the cats. They may even need to adopt the many strays that can be found on the streets. Each cat is unique and comes with its own looks, stats, and personality. The objective is ultimately to find the right combination of cats that can please and relax the café’s customers.
With the café located in a small countryside village known as Caterwaul Way, prepare to meet some interesting folks as well. There’s Finley, for example, a young musician who dreams of making it big. Then there is the local ferryman Bonner, who has a tendency to tell a lot of tall tales. As players get to know the townspeople better, they’re going to start to uncover clues about that mysterious shrine that appears to be dedicated to an ancient cat god. Players also can look a little deeper into Caterwaul Way and its strange history. Maybe they can find out why there are so many stray cats.
In a brief statement, Rick Sorgdrager of Roost Games shared that he has never forgotten his experience in a cat café in downtown Kyoto, particularly the bizarre comfiness. He went on to say that this is “why we want to offer players the fantasy of building their own weird little cat café.”
