Privateer Press has just announced new editions for Warmachine and Hordes . The tabletop game featuring giant robots and angry beasts has players take the role of warcasters or warlocks who control these goliaths. Two to six players can engage in combat with their miniatures, using a card, dice and counter system.
The last ruleset was released six years ago, and Privateer Press feels it’s time for a change. Chief Creative Officer Matt Wilson says: “During that time we've accumulated a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience from observing, listening to, and interacting with our worldwide community of players and retailers about how to continue to improve their experience with our games. After years of intensive work, we’re finally ready to share the outcome of that process and give our community what they’ve been asking for in our games.”
There will be new rule sets for Warmachine: Prime and Hordes: Primal that will make the game easier for newer players to understand. Nine new battlegroup sets, which give you enough models for one army, will be available at launch. Each battlegroup will come with updated cards for all previous units in the game, so that your whole collection will be updated and playable. There will also be a previously unseen warlock or warcaster in each battlegroup.
According to the press release: “The Battlegroup Starters, offered at $39.99 MSRP, will also contain a Rules Digest, a Basic Training Tutorial Guide, four dice, model stat cards, a Battle Map, an obstacle card, tokens, a flexible 18” ruler, a 22-page Introductory Guide featuring army building advice, a hobby painting tutorial, a faction strategy guide, and new fiction about the warlock or warcaster in the box.”
I used to play Hordes a lot when I was in high school. It was a simple game that required fewer models than Warhammer but still managed to be engaging and exciting. I don’t know if I can still paint, but this is a great opportunity to find out. Will you plan to purchase these new editions? Let us know in the comments.
