Project Scorpio speculation is heating up ahead of E3 2017, and the latest news tidbit arrives in a tweet from Windows Central reporter Jez Corden. In few words, he says the next-gen Xbox build of Star Wars Battlefront 2 will outmuscle most gaming PCs with 60 fps gameplay at native 4K resolution.
Coden’s exact tweet on the subject reads as follows: “I already know Battlefront 2 will run and look better on Scorpio than the vast majority of PCs on Steam.” He adds that the specifications are “native 4K @ 60 fps” and that this information has been confirmed by three unrelated sources close to Microsoft.

One member of that trio has reportedly provided authentic leaked information in the past. In fact, we suspect Corden is likely talking about the Windows Central Scorpio leaks that emerged in late March. According to the publication’s report, internal documents suggested that Scorpio games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 would run at some form of 4K resolution on the console. Since this is the second time we’re hearing this assertion from the same source, the person must feel confident they’ve got it right.
Of course, with the copious amount of Scorpio snippets Corden has been tweeting over the past few days, some gamers choose to be skeptical. A week ago Corden tweeted that he was told all Scorpio games must abide by October XDK regulations. As such, he supposed the system could release no sooner than September. Based on Microsoft’s past major console launches, that detail sounds feasible to us too.
If Battlefront 2 is able to hit 4K-60 with a fairly reasonable price tag, Scorpio might have the potential to upend the entire console generation by outperforming both of its main competitors. Sony’s PS4 Pro is adept at upscaling 4K through skillful checkerboarding techniques, but those visuals will likely look inferior to native. PCs have been able to hit 4K for some time now but not without some seriously expensive graphics cards. The Scorpio is projected to cost around $500. For the enthusiast that cares about frames and resolutions, that’s a fairly good value if these benchmarks are true.

In case you’re curious about some of the other predictions Corden has made about Scorpio, we’ll list a few of the most interesting ones. While seemingly not based on insider sources, he feels a price point of $399 or $349 is necessary to make the Scorpio a truly competitive console to Sony’s generational cominance. He also believes the system will launch between October and November and that it will offer some mixed reality features as an added bonus.
Project Scorpio will be discussed in greater detail during Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference on June 11. As for Star Wars Battlefront 2 , that game is set to release Nov. 17 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
