Microsoft may have unveiled the final tech specs for the Xbox Scorpio, but the good details, like a release date for the console, how much it will cost and what it will look like, still remain a mystery. Heck, Microsoft didn’t even show any cool new game footage yet. But we’ll finally learn all about the Scorpio at this year’s E3.
According to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, the Scorpio, along with the “amazing game experiences it powers,” will be coming at the Xbox press event in June. Although Spencer didn’t specifically mention any games, he did say there is a “diverse lineup” coming to Xbox One and these games will “play even better on Project Scorpio.”
Spencer also discussed the Xbox Live Creators program, and how it removes pretty much all barriers to publishing a game on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. “ When you combine that program with dev mode, which enables any retail Xbox One to be a developer kit, you have the easiest path in the industry for game creators to publish their games broadly to console and PC, reaching millions of gamers around the world,” he said.
If developer kits are any clue, we do have some idea of what the Xbox Scorpio will end up looking like. As reported by Gamasutra, the Xbox Scorpio developer kit looks similar to an Xbox One S. Developer kits tend to be more bulky than the final design, so don’t expect the console to look exactly like this one.
