The first teaser trailer for Project Wight is out this week, giving fans an early look at the first game from The Outsiders, the Stockholm-based studio founded by Ben Cousins and David Goldfarb (Battlefield 3, Payday 2). And it looks like an intriguing approach to the storytelling, that puts the focus on the monstrous inhabitants of the game world, instead of mankind, won’t be the only thing Project Wight has going for it at launch. Whenever that may be.
Additional details on Project Wight remain scarce at this time. The Outsiders has confirmed the game is set during the time of the Vikings and could cover a variety of periods in the creature’s life. We don’t have a name for our monstrous protagonist, nor do we know what part of the world the game will be set in. The studio doesn’t even know what the game will be called, when it’s finally released, since Project Wight is only supposed to be a developmental codename. What we do know is that the fight for survival will take center stage in Project Wight, with players assuming the role of a creature who's species has been hunted to near extinction, and the game will let players experience this new world at multiple stages of the monster’s life.
This week’s teaser gives us a brief look at two very different periods in the creature’s evolution. First, we’re introduced to the monster while it’s still an adolescent, unable to fight back against the humans hunting the rest of its species. And it’s only a few seconds before we’re watching two Vikings hack away at the fallen body of the creature’s father, leaving little doubt about the brutality we can expect to encounter in Project Wight. After a quick escape, Goldfarb jumps down the timeline, offering an even shorter preview of the more-mature creature’s ability to fight back.
