'Rainbow Six Siege' Barbed Wire Nerf Stands To Hurt Defenders Way Too Much

As the Rainbow Six Siege meta continues to evolve, so too will the way the utilities work in the game. Apparently, Ubisoft has been conducting some interesting trial tests in its Technical Test Servers (TTS), including a quiet update featuring an interesting Barbed Wire nerf.

Serving the dual purpose of making noises and slowing pushes, the Barbed Wire is an underrated element in the defenders' arsenal. And we'll know exactly how underappreciated it is when its attributes are gone – a Reddit thread from last week revealed that a patch allowed Barbed Wire to be destroyed in two hits rather than three. What's more, the attackers can now traverse across the Barbed Wire much more quickly than before.

"I don't even think it needed to be nerfed in the first place, this game is already attack sided with how potent Glaz and Montagne are in the current meta but the last thing that needed to happen was barbed wire getting nerfed," said redditor stylo2k. "I don't mind it if it was just like 5% or 8% slower. I just think ubi just went a lil overboard on how much they actually nerfed it."

The only way I can see the Barbed Wire nerf implemented in a balanced way is if an operator is given more to throw down, essentially a trade of quality for quantity. The Barbed Wire is a particularly popular meta against push attacks from Montagne. Since this shield wielding attacker is already quite heavy and slow, the Barbed Wire can potentially make what is already a slower push even slower. What's more, if Montagne wants to destroy the Barbed Wire, a melee will move the shield and leave his body vulnerable.

Obviously, changes made to the Ubisoft TTS will not affect the live game, but players are rightfully vocal about this nerf to make sure Ubisoft doesn't make the wrong choice. Now it's your turn.
