Rainbow Six Siege’s Charlotte Major, the first LAN event with a crowd since the pandemic, has finally concluded its grand final playday between two North American teams, DarkZero Esports and Astralis. The matches were played in a best of five format, with the maps being Villa, Clubhouse, Border, Oregon, and Bank.
The first match played on Bank was the most intense between these teams, but Astralis were able to win the final round on defense. Astralis won the Bank with an 8-7 scoreline. Then, DarkZero beat Astralis on Clubhouse and Border in a dominant style with scores 7-3 and 7-4, respectively.
DarkZero only required one map to win the series, but that wouldn’t have been an interesting tournament if it ended quickly. Astralis fought back hard on the fourth map, Oregon and won the game 7-4, which led to a 2-2 map score draw between both teams.
Final Map: Bank
The teams were back on Bank for their final match, where DarkZero started on the offensive. Bank favors attackers because of its linear gameplay. Teams just have to clear from top floor to bottom and then collapse into the site to win a round. Well, DarkZero took full advantage of being on the offensive and destroyed Astralis with a 5-1 scoreline in the first half.
After the side switch, Astralis were slowly gaining momentum by winning rounds. But on round nine, DarkZero switched to Archives and Tellers to surprise Astralis on the site pick. When the round started, Astralis thought the site would be free to enter because DarkZero were heavily defending the second floor. So, Astralis tried to rush into the site, but was greeted by DarkZero holding angles there as they had already predicted a rush incoming.
Astralis got desperate to make plays because of how far behind they were, all the while DarkZero were composed and waiting for Astralis to slip up. Astralis managed to plant the bomb in site, but this got them stuck in the area. DarkZero took advantage of this and collapsed on the remaining Astralis players to win the game.
DarkZero won the final map with a 7-3 scoreline, becoming the winners of the Charlotte Major.
