The first update of the year for Red Dead Online is finally here and it looks like it's good news for Naturalists. There's going to be New Year's bonuses and various rewards for those who embrace Mother Nature.
For the entire month, Naturalists can collect and then sell Samples to Harriet Davenport and in return get 2X RDO$ and XP payout. Meanwhile, taking down those big game in the Wild Animals Kill Challenge can have players earn 2X RDO$ and XP. Remember that the rarer and bigger the beast, the better. Those who don't want blood on their hands can bring their camera in the Wildlife Photography Free Roam Event and enjoy the double rewards for getting pictures of those diverse creatures that's just going around the map.
Fishing bonuses are also available, and all players need to do is sell their catch of the day to the Butcher and get 3X RDO$ on Fish Sales. They can also take on the Fishing Challenge Free Roam Event and earn 2X RDO$ and XP.
A Month with Nature
As mentioned, this month is all about Naturalists. Naturalists able to sell a Sample get to receive the West Hill Haven Treasure Map. Meanwhile, those able to sell 5 Samples in any week obtains the Black and Silver Morning Tail Coat. Dedicated animal enthusiasts on the other hand able to finish a round of Wildlife Photography receive a Reward for 5 Legendary Animal Pheromones. Completing an Animal Sighting Mission results in an Offer for 40% off a Novice or Promising Naturalist Role Item.
Players who Hunt or Sample a Legendary Animal each week receive these rewards:
- January 9 to January 15: An Offer for 5 Gold Bars off a Vitalism Studies Pamphlet
- January 16 to January 22: An Offer for 40% off an Established or Distinguished Naturalist Role Item
- January 23 to January 29: Black and Red Charro Jacket (Male), Red Hitched Skirt (Female)
- January 30 to February 5: Beige Raccoon Hat
Featured Series
The Featured Series this month offers a wide range of modes, along with some Hardcore Series, where players can earn 2X RDO$, XP, and Gold. These are:
- January 9 to January 15: Contrast Series (Last Stand and Sport of Kings)
- January 16 to January 22: Hardcore Overrun Series
- January 23 to January 29: Hardcore Elimination Series (Make It Count: Ancient Tomahawk, Bow and Arrow, and Throwing Knives)
- January 30 to February 5: Tumbleweed Series

Red Dead Online was released in 2019 and was originally an online component of Red Dead Redemption 2. In December 2020, a standalone client for the game was released. It is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
