Early on Tuesday morning, Rockstar revealed their red image teasers weren’t for a ping pong game, but instead the announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2. In the press release for the game, Rockstar mentions RD2 is going to have a “multiplayer world” similar to GTA V. On top of all that, Take Two, the company behind the RDR series, has registered the internet domain “readdead.online” so it’s only logical to assume this cowboy sequel will be smiliar to GTA V Online.
The original Red Dead Redemption was an open-world experience unlike any other, allowing you to play as a cowboy in the nitty, gritty, wild west. The only thing it was missing was a multiplayer experience, where you could go hunting in the mountains with some buddies for grub or team up with some friends to catch some outlaws. An open-world multiplayer RDR is a dream come true, at least for me.
RDR Online has a ton of potential. Westworld, HBO’s newest show about a make-believe world where the rich get to play cowboy and live out their darkest fantasies, shows how amazing RDR Online could be. In GTA V Online , players coordinate heists and try to screw over other players whenever possible. RDR Online will be like that, but with more cowboys and fewer grenade launchers.
Imagine, logging into Red Dead Redemption Online and seeing a sunset over the desert sky, painting the tumbleweeds the color of amber as the sun disappears over the horizon. Suddenly, a group of banditos come storming in on their horses, hooting and hollering like banshees. You unholster your revolver, but it’s too late.
The wicked men surround you, cutting off any means you have of an escape. When all your hope is gone, you hear some gunshots in the distance. Five players dressed in bright pink bunny suits shoot down all the banditos, saving you from imminent demise. Welcome to the world of Red Dead Redemption Online.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has no official release date, but the trailer is coming Thursday at 11 a.m. EDT.
