Rhythm Game Melatonin Coming to PC December 15

Who are we when we dream?
Who are we when we dream? Half Asleep

The new rhythm game Melatonin is announced coming to Steam, priced at $14.99, focusing on merging dreams and reality together.

The game uses animations and sound cues to keep the player on beat without any of those overlays or interfaces. Players need to harmonize across different dream levels which have surprising challenges, hand-drawn art, and even vibrant music.

Melatonin explores the relationship between the dreams we get when we sleep and the experiences that we go through when awake, made possible through unique rhythm game levels. Players get to see the hand-drawn colorful and detailed visual style paired with the music created to flow hand-in-hand with gameplay and visuals. Players need to piece together elements about the life of the main character as they dive deeper and deeper into their dreams at night.

Features of the game are:

  • Discover more than 20 levels spread across five chapters. Each level introduces a new way to follow the rhythm.
  • Players can unlock Challenge Modes that’s sure to test their rhythm reflexes and skill.
  • Experience the game from a new perspective by unlocking fun level Mashups.
  • Players can make the rhythm game level of their dreams through the easy to use Level Editor.
  • For those who need some help, they can try the Practice Mode to guide them through each level.
  • Don’t forget to try different assist features, especially for those feeling lost.

In a statement, developer David Huynh of Half Asleep revealed that there's a lot to learn about someone when you know what they're dreaming at night. The game, he added, explores that very concept while using music to convey the main character's feelings to the player. He went on to say while Rhythm Heaven did have influence on the gameplay, Melatonin offers its own unique style. David also said that this game has more original ideas that allows it to stand apart from the game that inspired it.

PC players won't have much trouble playing the game considering the minimum specifications:

  • OS: Windows 7 (SP1+) and Windows 10/11
  • Processor: 1.8 GHz or faster
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Storage: 3 GB available space

Melatonin is planned for release on Nintendo Switch though no date has been announced for now. Learn more about the game here.
