It has been a little over a year since Square Enix released SaGa Frontier Remastered on consoles and PC, and now it appears that its follow-up is not that far away. According to a new listing on the Play-Asia store by an eagle-eyed Twitter user, SaGa Frontier 2 is headed to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch soon, with both store pages listing a tentative August 25 release date. Check out the tweet which discovered the listings below.
Here is a short description of the game as seen on the official store pages:
Saga Frontier 2 introduces a complete renovation of the RPG genre. Traditional computer polygonal fixtures are replaced with lush, hand-drawn watercolor graphics supported by an awe-inspiring musical score. Blending both freedom and linearity, this title utilizes the Multi-Scenario System giving players unparalleled freedom in choosing which scenario they want to play while other scenarios crisscross with one another.

Saga Frontier 2 also introduced three innovative battle modes called Duel, Team, and Strategic. The battles will depend on the modes selected, and players can control a single character, a team, or several units all at once.
Saga Frontier 2 was first launched on PlayStation consoles in 1999 in Japan, with an English version released in the west in January 2000. The game was notable at the time for its incredibly unique hand-painted watercolor backdrops that give Saga Frontier 2 a notable storybook feel akin to reading something like Winnie the Pooh. Following on from the first SaGa title, Saga Frontier 2 features non-linear gameplay that allows players to follow multiple branching paths to complete the title.
Drawing heavily on Germanic and Anglo-Saxon roots, Saga Frontier 2 is set in the fictional world of Sandail. The game features two sprawling narratives from the viewpoints of two characters: Gustave XIII, an exiled heir seeking to reclaim what’s his, and William Knights, a man out to investigate his parents’ deaths.
Saga Frontier Remastered, the first game in the series, is now available to play on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. These will likely be the same platforms for Saga Frontier 2, so stay tuned for further announcements.
